  • Will the Summer Exploration Program operate take place during Summer 2021?

    Yes! Our online adventures will operate Monday – Thursday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm (EST) and will provide opportunities for explorers to engage in live lectures and activities led by Wake Forest staff. The online program will also allow participants to cultivate community with like-minded peers from around the world in a fun, safe online learning environment. Tuition for all of our online adventures will be reduced to $595.

    The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority. With that in mind and in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are moving the Summer Exploration Program and all five of our amazing adventures exclusively online.

  • Since the 2021 Summer Exploration Program is moving online exclusively and I was registered for an on-campus adventure, what are my options?

    We know that many of you were looking forward to joining us on-campus at Wake Forest this summer and recognize the disappointment this announcement may bring. As we move forward, we are offering three options for students who were registered for an on-campus adventure:

    Please review the information below regarding the three options:

    Online:
    Our online adventures will operate Monday – Thursday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm (EST) and will provide opportunities for explorers to engage in live lectures and activities led by Wake Forest staff. The online program will also allow participants to cultivate community with like-minded peers from around the world in a fun, safe online learning environment. Tuition for all of our online adventures will be reduced to $595.

    Deferral:

    Students who request to defer their enrollment will use their payments made for Summer 2021 to secure a space in the 2022 adventure of their choice. All payments made for Summer 2021 will be applied directly to Summer 2022 tuition. Students who select this option will not be required to submit a new application for Summer 2022, but they must register for their desired 2022 adventure when registration opens in November 2021. Deferrals will be confirmed in the order they are submitted.

    Refund:
    Students who request to cancel their registration will be refunded the full amount paid for Summer 2021, including deposits that were previously non-refundable. Students who select this option may re-apply for Summer 2022 but will be required to submit a new application. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, and acceptance and scholarship support is not guaranteed. Refunds will be processed in the order they are submitted and will be applied to the original payment method within five business days.

  • Who is eligible to apply for the Summer Exploration Program?

    Current 6th – 8th grade students (students graduating from high school in 2025, 2026 or 2027) are invited to apply.

  • Does my middle school student need to have prior STEM experience to apply to the program?

    Students are not required to have any prior STEM experience to apply to the program. We are looking for curious, bright students interested in learning more about STEM in an engaging virtual experience.

  • What is the cost of the program?

    The cost of tuition is $595 per student per week. A $295 deposit is required for registration once your student has been accepted to the program. The full cost of tuition is due upon registration after April 30th. 

  • Are scholarships available?

     Need-based scholarship assistance for the 2021 Summer Exploration Program – Online Experience is available. The Scholarship Committee reviews applications on a rolling basis and students are encouraged to apply early.

  • Is there an application fee?

    There is no application fee. The Summer Exploration – Online Experience tuition is $595.  A $295 deposit is required for registration once your student has been accepted to the program. The remaining balance of $300 is due by April 30th.

  • What are the application requirements?

    Students are asked to complete the free, online application. Once the completed online application has been received, a decision will be sent via email.

  • How many hours will my student spend online each day?

    Meetings are live, to provide opportunities to engage in real-time with instructors and peers. Students should be in attendance Monday – Thursday at the scheduled time each day from 1:00pm – 4:00pm EST.

  • What are the computer or software requirements for the Summer Exploration Program - Online Experience?

    Prior to the start of the programming week, participants will be sent an email with all the information they will need to participate in the Summer Exploration – Online Experience meetings.

  • What supplies will students need to be able to participate in the Summer Exploration Program - Online Experience?

    Most activities presented in the program can be completed using recycled materials or other materials that can be found in the home. A list of materials needed for each day’s activity will be provided prior to the meeting time, so that participants are prepared.

  • Special Note Regarding Program Enrollment

    We reserve the right to cancel adventures due to low enrollment. If an adventure is canceled, students will be notified via email and allowed to enroll in another adventure, request a refund, or defer to Summer 2022.

  • What is the cost of the program?

    The cost of tuition is $1,595 per student per week for the on-campus overnight program. The cost of tuition is $995 per student per week for the on-campus day camp option. A $295 deposit is required for registration once your student has been accepted to the program. The cost of tuition covers all activities, labs, meals, and housing on campus. A t-shirt is also provided to all students at check-in.

  • Are there any financial aid opportunities for the Summer Exploration Program?

    Yes, need based scholarship support is available. Students are asked to complete the online scholarship application when initially applying. Scholarships are offered on a rolling basis. Students who require financial assistance are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

  • Is there an application fee?

    There is no application fee. A $295 deposit is required for registration once your student has been accepted to the program.

  • What are the application requirements?

    Students are asked to complete the free online application. Once the completed online application has been received a decision will be sent to the student by email.

  • Will there be a wait list?

    Yes, once each program week is filled at 48 students per week a wait list will be created. Applications are reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis.

  • Who will be supervising my middle school student?

    All students will be supervised by Wake Forest staff members and Wake Forest undergraduate students.

  • Where can I find a packing list?

    A packing list will be sent by email to all students once the deposit of $295 is received.

  • How will the drop-off and pick-up process work?

    Students that are staying overnight are asked to be dropped off Sunday between 3:30 – 5:00 pm. Pick up is Friday at 12 noon.  Students that are participating in the day camp option are asked to be dropped off Monday at 8:30 am. Pick is at 4:00 pm each weekday.

  • How many students will be in each dorm room?

    Students will be housed in double rooms. Two students per room.

  • What evening activities are offered?

    Students participate in a variety of evening activities including karaoke, trivia night, board games, basketball, freeze tag, kickball and arts and crafts.
